Riikka Salonen, a bi-national native of Finland, brings over 20 years of experience as a diversity and inclusion strategist, intercultural facilitator and consultant worldwide. Salonen leads the diversity talent acquisition efforts at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. Salonen is a founder and managing partner of Global Inclusion Consulting, a company that assists organizations with diversity and inclusion strategic planning. Prior to coming to OHSU in 2008, Salonen served as an intercultural program specialist and a faculty of intercultural communication at an oceangoing university, The Scholar Ship. This global assignment took her to 17 different countries and involved intercultural teaching, training, coaching, and program development within an academic community comprised of over 50 nationalities. Earlier, Salonen was the associate director of assessment and research at the Intercultural Communication Institute. She received her master’s degree in intercultural communication and intercultural relations from University of Jyväskylä, Finland and a Professional Intercultural Certificate from the Intercultural Communication Institute. Salonen is an author of several publications and speaks regularly in national diversity, inclusion and equity conferences.
