Description

As a result of the dynamics of globalization, immigration, urbanization, international terrorism, and the clash of world religions, as well as the emergence of multiculturalism, it is essential that today’s leaders be equipped to effectively lead from a global and contextual mindset. Culture is a full range of learned human behavioral patterns, and each society looks at the world through its own set of codes, language, and culture. Part of leading with cultural intelligence is gaining knowledge and understanding of the powerful dimensions of culture and how those dimensions manifest in specific cultures.

This hands-on, interactive workshop will teach attendees about the role of power distance, time orientation, context, uncertainty avoidance, and gender in cultures. Whether you are supervising employees from other cultures, reporting to a manager from another culture, or simply want to exercise effective leadership in today’s world, this workshop will lead attendees through simulations and related discussion, with tools and insights that support the individual work of interpreting beliefs and values that ultimately determine behaviors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge IQ vs. Interpretive IQ (Livermore): Learn what these are and how to shift/improve both in order to increase cultural intelligence.
  • Explore how the six dimensions of culture (Hofstede) are crucial to understanding effective leadership.
  • Attendees will identify cultures with which they interact most often, and learn the tools to develop an action plan for greater intelligence when in relationships with people from those cultures.
