Session Code: S2-C
When: April 17, 2019
Location/Room: M 100 FGH

Description

This session will aim beyond the status quo as it pertains to recruiting, on-boarding, retaining and developing diverse teams. Workplace cultural discussions have shifted from focusing on diversity to emphasizing equity, inclusion and unconscious bias.

Although inclusion awareness is integral to laying a foundation for positive change, this knowledge is stagnant in absence of action and changed behaviors. In addition, diversity training often focuses on specific, siloed communities such as race/ethnicity, generational, gender, LGBTQIA and people with disabilities. Rather than being inclusive, this approach becomes exclusionary by segmenting groups versus establishing common behavioral expectations and global approaches to treating all people with equity and respect.

This session will challenge the notion of trainings dedicated solely to unconscious bias and specific groups, and will encourage a unified, intersectional approach to equity and inclusion. Upon completion of this session, attendees will have tangible tools to “Aim Hire” within their organizations and initiate actionable strategies to evolve the behavior of individuals in the workplace to positively impact underrepresented communities.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify solutions to breaking down silos through an evaluation of the global perspective of inclusion
  2. Shift from defined culture to establishing core behaviors to perpetuate inclusivity
  3. Apply the Aim Hire model to effectively recruit and develop talent with a focus on intersectionality
