Closing the Gap between Ethics and D&I

90-minute Workshops

Day 3

Session Code: S6-K
When: April 18, 2019
Level: Intermediate
Track: Social Responsibility
Presenter: Dr. Alan Richter, QED Consulting

Description

With the current political upheavals in today’s world, the success of D&I must be linked to sound ethics (and equity) and integrity—ethics must be at the heart of D&I to succeed. The growing complexity of rapid technological change and political polarization requires a firm ethical foundation to give D&I the chance to survive and thrive in making a better world for all.

This session explores the rise of professional ethics (in the workplace, government, the media, etc.) —yesterday, today and tomorrow, and the challenges arising from growing diversity and the increased need for global inclusion. We will trace the evolution of professional or business ethics and connect it with the D&I challenges of today and tomorrow.

Some of the key measures and standards will be addressed such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), and the Edelman Trust Barometer, which provide interesting global comparisons. Attendees will also explore the ethical nature of future D&I scenarios in the coming decades. The session will be part presentation and part discussion and dialog, with some quiz components to awaken curious minds about our complex moral universe.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of workplace ethics and its D&I connection.
  2. Acquire insights into global factors of ethics and which are culturally elected and political polarization’s impact.
  3. Explore ethical challenges arising from technology’s future impact on D&I.
