Safe Enough to Soar: Accelerating Trust, Inclusion and Collaboration in the Workplace

Do you feel safe enough at work to be your best self—and bring your full range of diversity—so you can do your best work? Do you feel brave enough to offer your best ideas? What if those ideas are very different from the norm or challenge the status quo? Do you feel safe enough to report a problem? What if the problem is with a colleague, manager or leader?

Safety is the invisible issue holding organizations—and people—back. We aren’t talking about physical safety, though that is critical. What we’re talking about is the supportive, liberating safety that enables people to think big, take risks and accomplish spectacular feats. The emotional and psychological safety that enables people to feel free to speak up, raise and address tough issues, and reach for greater possibilities together. We call this interaction safety.

In this session, we’ll share the concept of interaction safety and why it’s critical to an inclusive, diverse work environment, particularly as social and political polarization around us can’t help but leak into the workplace. We’ll explore the four levels of safety, and talk about what you can do as a leader, manager, team member or individual contributor to increase interaction safety to bridge the divides created by polarization and move to higher levels of trust, collaboration and performance.
