Day 3

Session Code: S5-C
When: April 18, 2019
Location/Room: M 100 J
Level: Introductory
Track: D&I Strategy
Presenter: Rebecca Waggoner, Quorum

Description

This highly interactive experiential session utilizes blended learning styles to help participants understand how to move beyond “the usual” diversity and inclusion efforts in order to understand and recognize supplier diversity as a profitable business strategy that creates long-term value for businesses and nonprofits at every scale.

Participants will be provided with a general understanding of the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion in supplier diversity efforts; skills to navigate the often-fractured relationships between supplier diversity teams, employee resource groups, and footprint-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives; and, finally, methods to create true social and economic change through proactive strategy development that addresses common roadblocks—including external/internalized biases, siloed diversity efforts, and limited leadership support.

This session culminates in small and large group peer advocacy-guided level-setting discussions and the development of paths to move forward.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Develop strategies to address fractured internal diversity efforts
  2. Identify and address five common roadblocks to true inclusion
  3. Develop an implementable plan for their own workplace
