Description

Organizations focused on social justice often attract staff intent on rectifying societal inequities and improving society. Yet this doesn’t necessarily result in broad workplace inclusion across multiple identities or in inclusive and equitable organizational processes and systems. How does such an organization—particularly in nonprofit health care—bridge this gap to build a comprehensive DEI initiative focused on workplace culture and systems, everyday behavior, and cultural competence?

Join us for a highly interactive session to learn about our experience and lessons learned at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest in our multi-year journey of strategic culture change—starting with top leadership and spreading to every staff member—encompassing work on individual awareness, inclusive leadership behavior, and employee integration and cultural competence. We will tell our story, elicit yours, and support you in applying key insights to your own organization.

Learning Outcomes
  • Describe overlap and contrasts of social justice work and internally-focused DEI work
  • List key elements of a strategic, systemic DEI initiative and inclusive practices in a nonprofit health care system
  • Apply these elements to yourself and your own organization
