Building Safe Spaces for Millennials of Color

20-minute Spotlight Sessions

Day 2

Session Code: Spotlight 5
When: March 11, 2020
Location/Room: Spotlight Stage
Presenters: Josuel Plasencia, Forefront  |  Yulkendy Valdez, Forefront

Description

In this interactive mini session, your ideas of diversity, equity and inclusion will be on trial. The future of work is multiracial, multiethnic and multigenerational. U.S. demographics are changing rapidly, and workplace transformation is inevitable. To keep pace with these changing demographics and improve equity in the workplace, we must make space for millennials of color (MOC).

By 2025, more than 75 percent of the workforce will be millennials, and over 50 percent of millennials are people of color. Organizations that want to hold a “talent competitive advantage” must learn how to bridge the gaps between senior leaders and millennials of color. Through our session, we can share best practices that will help organizations attract, retain and advance top talent from different backgrounds—and remain employers of choice.

Learning Outcomes
  • Understand the needs and wants of millennials of color (MOC)
  • Differentiate between mentorship and sponsorship programs
  • Leave energized to engage in long-term DEI work and reinvent the future for the next generation
