90-minute Workshops

Day 3

Session Code: S4-I
When: March 12, 2020
Location/Room: L100E
Level: Intermediate
Track: Global Diversity
Presenters: Camille Chang Gilmore, Boston Scientific  |  Monica Marcel, Language & Culture Worldwide (LCW)

Description

This session uses Boston Scientific Corp. (BSC) as a case study to explore the 10/20/40 by 2020 goals they set in 2018, and steps they took globally to reach these goals:

  • Be a “Top 10” recognized leader for workplace inclusion
  • Increase representation of multicultural talent (and people of color in the U.S.) to 20% at supervisor/manager levels
  •  Increase global representation of women to 40% at supervisor/manager levels

The session unpacks the courageous, often difficult, conversations and action that HR teams and senior leaders tackled around the world, which came after training the global org on unconscious bias. We’ll demonstrate just-in-time tools that are effectively used at BSC globally to help prime de-biasing behavior at the moment key people-decisions are made—which prove essential in hitting their 10/20/40 goals. We’ll wrap up by reviewing ways leaders are retooling organizational systems worldwide for a more sustainable culture of inclusion and excellence.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explore a metrics-driven, global, organization-wide approach to engaging equity
  • Practice real, courageous conversations that in-country leaders tackle as they work to manage bias daily
  • Review just-in-time tools effectively used to prime de-biasing behavior when key people-decisions are made
