Description

In January 2019, the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) received $4 million in funding from three of the most influential foundations in the world: the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Alice L. Walton Foundation, and Ford Foundation. Together, these four organizations have set out to change the diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion (DEAI) landscape for the entire museum field.

With this generous funding, AAM has created partnerships with 50 museums across five U.S. cities, 10 senior fellows, and D&I consulting firms to develop a rigorous, multi-faceted initiative that is taking place during three years— “Facing Change: Advancing Museum Board Diversity and Inclusion.” Join a panel of project partners to learn how this initiative was born, how partnerships were created, lessons we’ve learned, and AAM’s progress to change DEAI in the museum field to date.

Learning Outcomes
  • Discover how cross-sector partnerships can lead to major DEAI change
  • Learn how you might stretch your social corporate responsibility to accomplish national goals
  • Learn to make the case that crosses political divides for investment in museums
