Algorithms of Inclusion? How Bias is Amplified and Mitigated in Digital Hiring

20-minute Trend Talk

Day 4

Session Code: TT-6A
When: March 11, 2021
Level: Intermediate
Track: Critical Employment Practices
Presenter: Elisabeth Kelan, Essex Business School

Description

DEI practitioners have known for a long time that bias enters into the hiring process in significant ways. With digitalization, these biases are at risk to be perpetuated and amplified in the hiring process.

In this session, we will consider how bias enters machine learning and what can be done to mitigate or eradicate these biases. You will gain insight into how algorithms can function to create exclusion but might equally well generate inclusion.

Learning Outcomes

• Learn how AI and algorithms can amplify bias in recruiting
• Identify ways you can reduce the bias created by AI and algorithms
• Gain insight into how to engage recruiting partners so they help mitigate Al and algorithm bias
