Equitable Disruption that Lasts: Workplace Trends that Shift This Movement Beyond a Moment

20-minute Trend Talk

Day 1

Session Code: TT-1B
When: March 8, 2021
Level: Intermediate
Track: DEI Strategy
Presenter: Adetola Olatunji, New Profit

Description

Centering equity in your workplace takes a shift in practices, norms and structures as well as relationships, mindsets, behaviors and culture. The year 2020 relentlessly introduced the converging impacts of a public health crisis, economic crisis and movement for justice, all of which remind us why such shifts are important to the survival of our nation’s diverse workforce. These crises have laid bare the deep-rooted inequities that people who hail from historically marginalized communities face at work daily.

While organizations spent the past few months scrambling to expand work-from-home policies, adding Zoom accounts and increasing org-wide communication, some of the practices and structures most workplaces shifted have advanced equity in ways that are deeply meaningful, and have been a long time coming. This session will address why equitable disruption is critical, and share trends that need to stay through 2021 and beyond to ensure the movement for justice doesn’t fade.
