75-minute Workshops

Day 4

Session Code: S6-G
When: March 11, 2021
Level: Intermediate
Track: Non Profit
Presenters: Paul Johnson, Proactivism  |  Donte Curtis, Catch Your Dream Consulting
Prerequisite: A general understanding of white supremacy culture and white supremacy characteristics; A general understanding of burnout — that it is a syndrome caused by work-related stress

Description

We all know that white supremacy culture shapes all systems and institutions; none are immune to its influence. Yet many organizations unknowingly continue to perpetuate this system of oppression despite their professed dedication to dismantle it.

In this highly interactive workshop, we will invite attendees to identify how white supremacy characteristics shape organizational culture, leading to burnout and toxic work environments. Through small group discussions and self-reflection, you will discover how white supremacy culture affects you personally and creates an unsustainable approach to your work.

You’ll leave not only feeling equipped to create an organizational culture that is inclusive, equitable and promotes well-being, but also how to prevent burnout so that you can work for social change with sustained passion and energy for years to come.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify how white supremacy culture leads to toxic work environments and burnout
• Reflect deeply on how white supremacy culture has personally affected you
• Gain practical strategies to create cultures that are inclusive and healthy
