How the Myth of the Talent Pipeline is Used to Discriminate Against Minorities and People of Color

20-minute Trend Talk

Day 5

Session Code: TT-8A
When: March 12, 2021
Level: Intermediate
Track: DEI Strategy
Presenter: Jeanae DuBois, Shift3 Technologies

Description

When we think of creating an equitable and diverse work environment, there is a lot of talk but not a lot of results. Major tech companies struggle to create more representative workforces and always fall back into the excuse of there isn’t enough diversity in the talent pipeline.

Shift3 Technologies is a case study in how this myth is just that. This session will talk about how there is more than enough “nontraditional” talent to drive the technology industry forward and, in fact, by looking beyond the usual talent pools, companies are better equipped to innovate on the spot. Jeanae will share how Shift3 is able to recruit a diverse workforce and empower them to create one of the biggest social impact solutions this year.

Learning Outcomes

• How diverse software developers create competitive advantages
