Identifying and Managing Power Dynamics for Deeper, More Impactful DEIB Work

75-minute Workshops

Day 5

Session Code: S8-B
When: March 12, 2021
Level: Introductory
Track: DEI Strategy
Presenter: Dr. Kim Walker, Arabella Advisors

Description

There’s so much exciting work happening on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion, but that work doesn’t always explicitly address power. This workshop will help you identify ways that power may be manifesting in and affecting your internal culture and externally facing work. We’ll pull examples and ideas from academic theory, practice, and the audience’s experiences about the impact of power.

You’ll learn six ways power may be presenting and how it impacts your equity and inclusion practices. You’ll deeply reflect on how to manage and share power differently, and have time to workshop strategies for addressing power in the context of your work.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify ways that power may be manifesting in and affecting you and your work
• Understand the three dimensions of power and how each impacts your strategy for addressing it
• Immediately create an environment at work where power can be more easily shared
