Reflections from Both Sides of the Glass Ceiling

75-minute Workshops

Day 2

Session Code: S2-A
When: March 9, 2021
Level: Intermediate
Track: Critical Employment Practices
Presenter: Stephanie Battaglino, Follow Your Heart, LLC

Description

Male privilege is a very real thing — it pervades all aspects of society especially in the workplace. But what happens when you do not have it anymore? Stephanie was the first transgender person and corporate vice president to come out — on the job — in the 160-plus-year history of New York Life, and in so doing had that happen to her. Suddenly the glass ceiling became a very real thing. Was it because she is transgender? Or was it because she was seen as another woman in the workplace? The answer is: it was a little bit of the first and a lot of the second!

Stephanie’s frank, honest, and vulnerable storytelling paints a vivid picture of what the intersection of gender and gender identity looks like from a decidedly unique point of view, and provides a powerful trailblazing story of inspiration, self-discovery, and triumph — for ALL women.
