Resilience in Revolution: Taking Action to Increase Your Resiliency

75-minute Workshops

Day 1

Session Code: S1-D
When: March 8, 2021
Level: Introductory
Track: Diversity Leadership
Presenter: Shannon Murphy, BrainSkills@Work

Description

The call for action is clear: to create anti-racist, equitable workplaces. The changes needed require a commitment to action and willingness to do the heavy lifting needed to create real change — and it requires resilience. To create the vision of a truly equitable and inclusive workplace requires being uncomfortable, having the courageous conversations, and addressing systemic processes, policies and norms. This work is not easy, and it often comes with an emotional price tag, especially for people in historically marginalized groups.

This interactive session will focus on increasing your resiliency while taking the action needed. You will learn how change, confronting fear, and uncertainty can tax the brain’s resources, and reduce your ability to stay focused and sustain high levels of engagement. Learn and practice specific tools and skills that are designed to help you quiet the fear circuitry in the brain and increase your resilience and well-being in the change process.

Learning Outcomes

• Understand how resiliency is a skill that can be developed and strengthened
• Gain insight into fear and change, and how that can deplete energy, focus and engagement
• Learn and practice new tools that will quiet the fear circuitry in the brain to increase resilience
