20-minute Trend Talk
Day 2
Session Code: TT3-CWhen: April 6, 2022
Level: Intermediate
Track: Government
Presenter: Angie Fuoco, U.S. Government, Accessibility Professional
Description
This session will expand your views of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, giving you new tools to achieve them all. Drawing on lessons learned in the safety, emergency preparedness, accessibility, and plain-language communication fields, the session posits new ideas to build a successful DEI program in government or any organization. It boldly demonstrates accessibility as first and foundational to your DEI program and gives you the tools to make it soar.
Note: In the second learning outcome (below), P.A.U.S.E. stands for Perceive, Affect, Use, Size it up, and Engage—it means considering the abilities, experiences, thoughts, and emotions, as well as other dimensions of people in your DEI + Accessibility program. These principles are derived from accessibility technology design principles (from worldwide Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and the dimensions of wellness (as published by SAMHSA, HHS).
Learning Outcomes
• Understand disability’s privilege and intersectionality with other characteristics throughout life
• Apply P.A.U.S.E. principles to your diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility program
• Create an accessible experience for everyone using an army of allies and DEI will follow
