Description

According to a Gallup poll, 15.9% of Generation Z adults (ages 18–23) are identifying as LGBTQ. At the same time, the Human Rights Campaign has declared that 2021 has been the deadliest year on record for transgender and nonbinary people, with trans women of color being the primary targets of violence.

Mainstream LGBTQ advocacy for transgender and nonbinary communities has homed in on trans people that fit nicely into our workplaces’ transition guidelines. We can build upon this progress by designing systems that create true equity for ALL people that exist and present themselves outside of the gender binary. But in order for this to happen—quickly—non-LGBTQ workers should be given the opportunity to explore how gender liberation and self-determination might be their struggle, too.

Hop in, friend, it’s time to pose an honest challenge to the gender binary in our workplaces.

Learning Outcomes

• Gain knowledge to update your organization’s gender inclusion guidelines and normalize pronoun use
• Learn to advocate for a review of core policies and their level of gender inclusion
• Examine how to modify human resources information systems to ensure trans and nonbinary equity
