Spotlight Series

Day 1

Session Code: SL-2
When: April 5, 2022
Level: Introductory
Track: Critical Employment Practices
Presenter: Farzana Nayani, Farzana Nayani | Consulting & Training

Description

The United States 2020 Census results demonstrate that many population groups are exhibiting growth, including the multiracial population. How does this new information impact the workplace? As we explore the changing demographics of our world, it is important to create equitable and inclusive environments for all, including multiracial individuals.

Join the discussion to learn about how problematic processes and perspectives can be biased and can exclude people who identify with more than one ethnic or racial ancestry. We will discuss HR implications including data collection, common microaggressions, exclusion, and how employee resource groups can be more inclusive of individuals with multiple heritages.

The speaker, an author on multiracial identity, will share research and findings from various sources and will share its application to the workplace setting.

Learning Outcomes

• Understand the trends and needs of the growing multiracial population
• Explore how organizational processes and interactions may have bias against multiracial people
• Learn to advocate for more inclusive and equitable workplace environments to support multiracial people
