Diversity Dialogues—Empowering Employees to Lead in Equity, Inclusion and Diversity in Healthcare

90-minute Workshops

Day 1

Session Code: S2-G
When: April 5, 2022
Level: Introductory
Track: Healthcare
Presenters: Janina Hogans, Mayo Clinic  |  Kara Saliba, Mayo Clinic

Description

In 2020, Mayo Clinic Arizona employees found themselves in the midst of a triple threat: the murder of George Floyd, a paralyzing pandemic, and the crushing financial burden of furloughs. One employee saw the light of opportunity in the darkness. Diversity Dialogues bring difficult conversations out into the open and empower employees to generate their own solutions and create sustained opportunities.

Our session presents a framework to generate change in the context of organizational commitment. We share key tips and strategies for offering relevant programming, building connections, and fostering productive conversation that is inclusive of diversity in thought. Participants use tools and engage in discussion regarding how to best meet current challenges, lessons learned from real-life experiences, and sharing ideas.

Learning Outcomes

• Address challenges around identifying relevant programming in virtual environments
• Shine a light on champions for change and create connections between leadership and staff
• Foster productive conversation that sustains results beyond the initial event
