More than a Hashtag: Beyond Performative Actions

20-minute Trend Talk

Day 1

Session Code: TT2-A
When: April 5, 2022
Level: Intermediate
Track: DEI Strategy
Presenter: Mary Fairchild, F5

Description

As companies around the world pledged a renewed commitment to racial justice and put the full weight of their resources toward these efforts, F5 endeavored to both continue its dedication toward diversity and inclusion in general and focus specifically on racial inequity—and to do so in an authentic and impactful way.

Accomplishing this would require:
1. Engaging every employee in a way that was scalable, sustainable, and substantial
2. Designing equitable solutions that acknowledge experiences in the workplace are unique by identity group
3. Sharing messages externally that represent the internal experience at F5.

F5’s culture had always been one of collaboration, but the true journey of diversity and inclusion really took shape in 2018, making F5 relatively early in its efforts. F5 set out to create a plan of action that was repeatable in nature and felt like an accelerator for their D&I work and not an add-on.
