Description
While there has been an unprecedented demand for inclusion training in the past three years, integrating intercultural and inclusion concepts and practices is not new for many practitioners. In this session, three Black/African American practitioners will discuss the impact of the growing demand for DEIB training on Black practitioners and share:
• Key reflections and lessons learned in the past three years
• Their rationale for using cultural competence as a framework for inclusion
• Methodologies for successfully integrating intercultural and inclusion concepts and practices into DEIB trainings
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of our identity as practitioners, and how to factor identity into the work. They will also learn how these three practitioners have used cultural competence as an approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion to explore intercultural and diversity issues in local and global contexts for the past 20 years. Lastly, they will discuss how intercultural competence and inclusion intersect, and methodologies and frameworks used in DEIB trainings to advance audiences’ ability to navigate differences.
Learning Outcomes:
• Gain insights into the impact of DEIB work on practitioners of color
• Learn how LCW uses cultural competence as an approach to DEIB work
• Understand the intersections of intercultural competence and DEIB
