Description
Every day we hear the horror stories. New bills stripping LGBTQ people of their rights. Constant tragedies that mark communities. The government abandoning citizens during a crisis. This session sparks conversation about how employers can break their political silence. From making written statements to challenging the political landscape in the places where they work, the first step is getting creative.
We hear the whispers. Employees want their employers to do something in response to political events that affect their everyday lives. Decision makers often reply to these requests with myriad excuses: That’s too political, we’re not prepared, or we aren’t financially stable enough.
During this workshop, we’ll prepare for these concerns. We’ll discuss the roadblocks to respond to political events, and creative ways to sidestep them. We are on the cusp of profound changes in the ways LGBTQ people are treated in society and our companies have huge power to help define what that treatment will look like.
Learning Outcomes:
• Define and describe the most common ways that organizations avoid involvement in political processes, issues, and conversations
• Effectively engage in conversations with colleagues and leaders at my organization about the importance of engaging in the political process
• Outline meaningful suggestions for my organization to get involved in the political struggle for LGBTQ people that are practical and tactical
