Description

This place-based immersive experience, offered by the Minnesota Humanities Center, brings participants to sites of great significance to Dakota people in the Twin Cities. Participants will learn from Dakota community members through personal stories and histories that have often been left out of our state’s history.

Participants will meet at the hotel and then travel by bus to two locations. Space is limited to 45 attendees.

Much of this experience will be outdoors, so participants must dress for the weather, which will likely include cold temperatures and snow. The format of this activity is subject to change in the case of severe weather conditions.

Learning Outcomes

• Develop a better understanding of the negative impact historical exclusion has on individuals and communities today
• Immerse in the concept of how “place” can provide an inclusionary lens for discussions about race, culture, identity, and belonging
• Increase awareness that cultural immersive experiences can be a critical and positive part of your workplace DEI efforts
