Modeling Inclusivity in the Design of DEI&B Programs: A Primer for Stakeholders and Program Managers

60-minute Workshop

Day 3

Session Code: VS-16
When: March 29, 2023
Level: Advanced
Track: Diversity Leadership
Presenter: Drew Remiker, NovoEd
Prerequisite: Participants have held a role implementing a DEI&B initiative in their workplace and be familiar with the goals and challenges of implementing such programs

Description

You have the content, strategy, and resources to implement a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) program at your organization, but do you know how to make the learners in these initiatives feel that the programs are truly their own and connected to the company’s authentic culture? It is when learners are engaged and feel heard that culture actually changes.

This session will cover best practices and decision-making strategies for balancing learning science, psychological safety, learner engagement strategies, and your organization’s culture in service of creating transformational DEI&B learning journeys.

We will explore what makes DEI&B design different from the design of other learning initiatives. Considerations include establishing trust in the program early on; confronting the challenge that there might not be universal buy-in from all stakeholders; creating accountability and relevancy; and building layers of intimacy within a cohort where smaller sub-groups give learners an even more intimate forum for authentic self-expression in which they feel heard and empowered.

Participants will understand how a cohort or group-based approach to learning can be applied to furthering your organization’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging learning journeys, evolving training programs from merely insightful to motivating change.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand how a cohort- or group-based approach to learning can be applied to furthering your organization’s DEI&B learning journeys
• Discover how to address the challenges of engaging learners in DEI&B initiatives that feel psychologically safe, relevant, and transformational
• Analyze an example of a successful learning journey that leverages cohort-based learning for DEI&B for your organization’s own learning ecosystems
