Compassion Fatigue: A Battle with Selfless and Selfish
60-minute Workshop
Day 1
Session Code: S2-FWhen: March 27, 2023
Level: Introductory
Track: Healthcare
Presenter: Gabrielle Davis, National Co+op of Grocers
Description
Validating that burnout exists has been a hot topic during the past few years due to the COVID pandemic. However, it is often simply stated that it exists without any examples of how to recognize it and what to do once it’s recognized.
Compassion fatigue existed prior to the current pandemic and this session will provide tools to recognize, tend to, and cope with compassion fatigue at school, at work, and at home.
Learning Outcomes:
• Identify tangible ways to incorporate care-of-self tactics to manage compassion fatigue as respiratory therapists, professors, and student RTs in a variety of environments
• Describe compassion fatigue and its impact on a timeline from prior to being a student through the present
• Compose coping skills for managing compassion fatigue in workplace settings
