The Necessary Shift from DEI Trainings to Intentional Colleague Engagement
90-minute Workshops
Day 3
Session Code: S7-FWhen: March 29, 2023
Level: Introductory
Track: Innovation & Transformation
Presenters: Charmaine Cavin, SHRM-CP, PHR, HealthPartners | Jason Jackson, HealthPartners | Dr. Kate Curley, HealthPartners
Description
Often in organizations where there are DEI departments and practitioners, leaders and colleagues heavily depend on these practitioners to take the lead in facilitating DEI conversations for their teams.
In this session, we will explore how we as DEI practitioners and champions (both formally and informally defined) can turn the tables to coach and encourage colleagues throughout our organizations to take on and lead DEI training and other initiatives rather than continuously put the burden on DEI practitioners and departments to come “fix it” for us.
Learning Outcomes:
• Explore strategies to build equity and inclusion acumen while strengthening our colleagues’ confidence and competence in these practices
• Practice DEI coaching methods in redirecting and reframing the importance of leaders guiding DEI trainings and conversations with their teams
• Be able to identify skills and opportunities to shift culture around DEI learning and development to activate more people throughout an organization
