What’s the Deal with ESG?

20-minute Trend Talk

Day 2

Session Code: TT-5
When: March 28, 2023
Level: Introductory
Track: Social Responsibility
Presenter: Elizabeth N. Laine, Clearway Energy Group

Description

Environmental, Social, and Governance — “ESG” has become a bit of a buzzword lately, though many do not have a solid understanding of what it is, why it matters, and how it impacts their businesses.

In this Trend Talk, award-winning DEI leader Elizabeth Laine will discuss how businesses today are realizing that the distinction between what is good and what is profitable is diminishing. Customer demands for corporate social accountability are changing the expectations of how business should be done in the modern era while calls for greater corporate accountability are creating the basis for standards beyond short-term shareholder value in corporations.

In this session, learn the meaning and impact of ESG and explore a few examples of company scandals that resulted from a lack of ESG accountability.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the meaning and impact of ESG
• Improve your ability to intelligently discuss the value and practical implications of ESG
• Recognize ESG opportunities and risks within your own organizations
