FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Forum on Workplace Inclusion at Augsburg University Welcomes Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for Diversity Insights Breakfast event on October 31, 2019

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — October 14, 2019 — The Forum on Workplace Inclusion® (The Forum) at Augsburg University along with the State of Minnesota are excited to announce, “Creating One Minnesota,” featuring Governor Tim Walz. The event will take place on Thursday, October 31 from 8:00 am – 10:00 am at the DoubleTree by Hilton 511 Huron Blvd. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Registration is $75 per person, and a breakfast buffet is included with price of admission. Space is limited. Register at ForumWorkplaceInclusion.org.

At the October 31 event, attendees will hear from Gov. Tim Walz, followed by a panel of State officials discussing the State’s efforts to build “One Minnesota,” where we collaborate across differences to create a state that works for everyone.

Gov. Walz’s and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan’s “One Minnesota” vision and strategy focuses internally and externally, so state agencies can be better positioned to retain diverse workforces and leverage benefits of diversity to create more innovative and equitable programs and services.

The workshop also explores how the State can address inequities and disparities experienced by Minnesotans based on age, race, zip code, ability, and more by working hand-in-hand with the communities themselves.

The panel of State officials features key members of the Walz/Flanagan administration’s focus on equity who will share about their roles in creating One Minnesota, including:

  • Chris Taylor, Chief Inclusion Officer, Office of Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan
  • Migdalia Loyola Meléndez, Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Engagement, Office of Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan
  • Rebecca Lucero, Commissioner for Department of Human Rights
  • Hamse Warfa, Deputy Commissioner for Economic Development at the Department of Employment and Economic Development
  • Erin Bailey, Assistant Commissioner for MN Management and Budget and Executive Director of the Minnesota Children’s Cabinet

The Forum’s Executive Director Steve Humerickhouse speaks to the value of the Diversity Insights Breakfast experience as well as the unique opportunity this event provides.

“This Diversity Insights Breakfast in particular offers a truly unique opportunity to engage with our State’s leaders, in one place,” Humerickhouse said. “In this instance, the Governor – and his key staff who work on diversity, equity, and inclusion – will share his plans to help us all better understand what our State government is doing, and what we as citizens must do as well; this is not a Forum event to miss!” he said.

Gov. Walz will be introduced by Augsburg University President Paul C. Pribbenow, Ph.D.

This event is part one of our three-part Diversity Insights Breakfast series. The Forum on Workplace Inclusion® Diversity Insights Breakfasts are in-person events held in Minneapolis, MN offering professional skill-building opportunities in diversity, equity, and inclusion presented by scholars, thought-leaders, and professionals.
