Jamal Lopez is the senior director of Institutional Equity at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) in New York City, where he leads the Office of Institutional Equity to advance and operationalize the Dean’s diversity, inclusion, and equity goals. Jamal oversees WCM’s Title IX compliance efforts and investigations of all claims of harassment and/or discrimination, and collaborates with external and internal institutional partners to advance efforts on equity, inclusion, and respect.

Prior to working at Weill Cornell Medicine, Jamal worked as a federal police officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was a social worker for the Administration for Children’s Services, and held senior roles in diversity at the NYC Department of Education, NYC Human Resources Administration, and Con Edison.

Jamal holds a BA in criminal justice and an MPA in public administration/human resources management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He also has a JD from New York Law School.

As a testament to Jamal’s leadership and passion to align HR and diversity strategies to organizational goals, he has a certification from the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional, and recently completed professional diversity certification at the Society for Diversity.

Additionally, Jamal has been an adjunct professor at Berkeley College in New York City since 2012, where he teaches undergraduate courses in Berkeley’s Justice Studies program.
