2022 Conference Session: Shifting from Human Capital to Social Capital: Leading Indicators of Inclusion (S1-E)

Laraine McKinnon is an advisor and Talent and Culture strategist for Emtrain, a CultureTech firm providing online training and predictive analytics for healthy workplace cultures. As a member of the R&D/Innovation team, she builds the Emtrain competency and skill framework and microlesson content to create behavioral change and pulse employee perception. Working with culture-forward organizations, she analyzes employee sentiment, identifies trending concerns, delivers benchmark scores versus internal and external cohorts, and consults on ways to create more positive and inclusive behaviors.

Laraine co-authored Emtrain’s research papers, “Social Capital and Social Indicators: Building Organizational Health in the Modern Economy” (2021) and “A Data-Driven Approach to Winning the War for Talent During the Great Resignation: Ending Silos Between DEI, Culture and Anti-Sexual Harassment Initiatives” (2022) as well as Emtrain’s 2020 and 2021 Workplace Culture Reports on Respect and Inclusion. She speaks, writes, broadcasts, blogs, and facilitates sessions on current workplace culture issues.

She is president of The CLUB of Silicon Valley, a women’s leadership nonprofit, and runs their Incubator program where she helps accelerate the careers of diverse talent. She was honored as a Silicon Valley Business Times Woman of Influence in 2018.

Laraine holds a BA degree, cum laude, in political science and women’s studies from Wellesley College, and a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion for HR from Cornell University.
