Maria Morukian, founder and president of MSM Global Consulting, has more than 16 years of experience consulting, training and coaching leaders in their growth and development. She provides consultation to facilitate successful strategic initiatives and organizational change, with a special interest in diversity and inclusion, intercultural competence, organizational culture transformation, and leading innovative change. Maria coaches leaders and executives during times of transformation and turbulence, to gain clear perspectives on their vision for the future and develop creative processes to achieve their goals. She works with such diverse clients as the World Bank, U.S. Department of State, Transurban Development, Department of the Navy, General Services Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission, Library of Congress, U.S. Postal Service, Spitzer Auto World, Lorain Public Schools, Syngenta Seeds LLC and Delta Air Lines. She has worked with leaders around the world, including India, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Thailand, Colombia and Tunisia.

Maria formerly served as the director for the Leadership and Management Practice at Management Concepts, a training and consulting organization in Washington, D.C. She served as a leadership development specialist for the U.S. Department of State, where she delivered training, coaching and consultation to foreign affairs professionals to effectively lead and manage a globally diverse workforce. Maria served as the executive director for the National MultiCultural Institute, where she led efforts to develop and deliver customized organizational change initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion and intercultural competence, working with clients as diverse as the International Monetary Fund and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

She currently serves as a faculty member at the Federal Executive Institute, where she trains and coaches senior executives in the federal government and facilitates strategic planning and leadership development programs for federal agencies. She also serves as adjunct faculty at American University’s School of International Service, teaching graduate-level courses on intercultural communication and global teams.

Maria regularly speaks at events and conferences, including Georgetown University’s Center for Organizational Transformation, Federally Employed Women, and Blacks in Government. She is a frequent contributor to trade publications, including the Association for Talent Development’s The Public Manager, and is co-author of “Designing and Implementing a Diversity Initiative: A Guide for Organizational Culture Change.”

Maria has a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) certification from the International Coaching Federation. She also is certified in the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQi) and EQi 360, Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and Intercultural Conflict Styles Inventory (ICS), and Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). She earned a dual bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in organizational studies and Spanish, and a master’s degree from American University in international communication.
