Sara Chute is assistant director of the Center for Health Equity and the Center for Health Data at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Prior to this role, she oversaw the Refugee and International Health Program as an assistant section manager in the Infectious Disease division. Sara has also lent her expertise to MDH initiatives for limited-English proficient and low-literacy communications, health equity, and cultural competence. She has been at MDH since 2006.

Nationally, Sara served on the Health Education Committee for the Association of Refugee Health Coordinators. Locally, she has co-chaired the Metro Refugee Health Task Force, is an active member on several community coalitions, and is board chair emeritus and member of the Karen Organization of Minnesota serving refugees from Burma (Myanmar).

Prior to joining MDH, Sara worked for the Hennepin County Medical Center Medicine Clinic, and the United Nations Development Program. She holds a master’s in public policy from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, and a bachelor’s in international affairs from Carleton College. Sara is multilingual, and has studied in Mexico and the Czech Republic, volunteered in South Africa, and worked in Trinidad.
