Our Most Effective Selves: Developing Our Cultural Competence

3-hour Seminars

Day 1

Session Code: SEM-H
When: April 10, 2018
Location/Room: 200 AB
Level: Intermediate
Track: Innovation & Transformation
Presenter: Sara Taylor, deepSEE Consulting

Description

The highest performing teams are both diverse and culturally competent, yet only 2.5 percent of individuals are culturally competent. That’s the bad news. The good news is that any of us—individually and organizationally—can develop this ability.

The ability of cultural competence (CC) is our ability to interact effectively across differences. This ability goes far beyond the typical notions of CC as a skill we need only when we travel overseas or bring in foreign workers, and becomes a skill relevant to every interaction and can be used across any difference that may make a difference. Based on the foundational Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®), this session provides a new, efficient, and proven process to measurably and significantly develop CC. Learn from both individual and organizational case studies.

Whether you’re new to CC or have taken the IDI and are asking, “Now what?” this session is for you.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand individual and group stages of development and levels of competence.
  • Practice stage-appropriate developmental strategies.
  • Learn the new proven process to significantly develop CC.
