Walking the D&I Talk: Helping Busy Leaders and Resistant Managers Implement Policy and Behave Inclusively Every Day

Level: Intermediate
Track: Critical Employment Practices
Presenter: Jeremy Solomons, Jeremy Solomons & Associates

Many organizations come up with powerful policies and far-reaching systems for infusing both Diversity and Inclusiveness throughout their organizations. But if they really want to make meaningful, sustainable change over the longer term, it is the individual leaders and managers on the front line, who must actually bring these policies to life through their everyday interactions with other people internally and externally. This practical session will first explore what D&I effectiveness should look like in the trenches and the main reasons why this does not always happen. And then it will co-create pragmatic suggestions for how to coach, guide, nudge, coerce and sometimes have a very awkward and difficult conversation with a busy, distracted leader or a resistant, fearful manager to turn sterile policy and abstract theory into impactful action and real change.
