As part of the learner and student-centric academic delivery model the universities embarked on a comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategic plan. Through thoughtful partnerships within an academic community, universities can establish a direct path for intentional projects and initiatives for DEI. Expanding DEI work through the leadership of a Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and a President’s Commission on DEI that oversees and provides insight into the critical work surrounding DEI creates opportunities for everyone within the organization to contribute and increases the visibility of the overall DEI strategy and progress.

Led by the CDO, the Six Pillars of strategic DEI work provided opportunities for various university academics and staff members to lead organized and essential projects in an easy way to understand and measure. The pillars focused on Learner & Alumni Equity; Curriculum & Program Review; Accreditation; Individual Awareness & Understanding; Organizational Culture; and the Talent Pipeline.

The proposed webinar session provides attendees best practices, outcomes, and strategies for engaging diverse university community members in strategic DEI work. The work aims to bring workforce representation at all levels, create meaningful opportunities, and strengthen the university culture and effectiveness by leading with diversity as a strength.
