More than ever, organizations are taking a bold stance on addressing and dismantling institutional racism. And despite anti-racism efforts and work to reduce racial inequities, progress toward racial health equity remains stagnate. With the extent and quality of care as a critical social determinant of health, healthcare organizations play an integral role in acknowledging, addressing, and reducing racial health inequities.

In this session, a case study on Region Hospital’s experience addressing and dismantling institutional racism will be shared. In 2019, the Regions Birth Center planned and executed a year-long equity education experience that equipped staff and providers with a racial equity lens through which they redesigned systems, processes, and policies centered on equity. Participants will receive valuable strategies and resources that they can bring back to their workplace.
