Real Talk: Getting at the Root of Tensions that Divide Us

90-minute Workshops

Day 3

Session Code: S6-A
When: March 12, 2020
Location/Room: M100HIJ
Level: Intermediate
Track: Social Responsibility
Presenter: Mary-Frances Winters, The Winters Group, Inc.

Description

When organizations take risks by confronting controversial topics, employees, customers and stakeholders may strongly disagree with the way they are using their resources, and whose voices they choose to elevate. Societies and current events around the globe are pitting us to be either “for” or “against” a topic, set of values, or point of view.

In order to not shy away from controversy but rather explore it together, what sensibilities and responsibilities must we have to engage civilly in navigating opposition? This session will build on the Day 2 afternoon General Session moderated by Michele Meyer-Shipp.

Learning Outcomes
  • Learn how to engage others in bold conversations
  • Understand the responsibilities and unintended consequences that come with taking a stand
  • Exercise stance of inquiry as a process for navigating opposition
